About Mensana

Hey, I'm Jen...

about-mensana

Hey There…

A promise I made myself as I sat in a hospital room watching my child oscillate between looking lifeless to drug induced hallucinations from a suicide attempt was: No more families should face the consequences of dysfunctional mental health systems. If a well educated and privileged professional and mom cannot navigate this system with success, then no one else is either.  I do not want to see another child, parent, or loved one suffer in a system seeped in inequity and injustice.

Like many parents I have walked what I call an absolute hellish nightmare trying to navigate the dysfunctional youth mental health system. There are not good words to describe this journey and if you have walked this journey you understand. Our systems, or lack thereof, are built out of toothpicks and are wreaking havoc on individuals and families. When we build systems out of toothpicks they are not solid, quick to blow over, and do not provide an adequate path more or less guarantee of high-quality care.

I work with parents to educate, advocate, and help them navigate the system with less stress and more success. Helping other families is incredibly important to me, but my passion is changing systems. I am honored to work with national, state, and local, communities, decision-makers, schools, healthcare, juvenile justice, foster care and nonprofit organizations & systems to help them assess needs, provide intensive education and develop strong sustainable holistic systems that allow for youth, families, staff, and community to thrive. People tend to be shocked at the tremendous return on investment when this work is done with integrity.

It is time to take mental health out of the shadows and give it the same attention, time, energy, and funding that we give asthma, heart disease, cancer or any other medical condition. No one wakes up one day choosing to have a mental health condition so I am here to empower parents & organizations, transform systems, and advocate for mental health justice.

I am here for you.

About Mensana

“Mens sana in corpore sana” is Latin for a healthy mind in a healthy body and there isn’t a better way to describe what we think everyone deserves. Our body is a complicated and highly connected system, including our minds. In order to optimize our performance, outcomes, and quality of life we have to give as much attention, learning, and transformation to our minds as we do to our physical bodies.
